Ram & Hanuman — a bond beyond duty

When Rama's beloved Sita was taken from their forest home, it was a band of vanaras — forest-dwelling folk — who came to his aid. Among them stood Hanuman, son of the wind god, whose strength was matched only by his humility.

Hanuman crossed the ocean in a single leap to find Sita in Lanka, then returned to lead the search party back with hope. He fought alongside Rama's army, carried word between them at the most desperate hours, and once famously flew to the Himalayas to bring back an entire mountain of healing herbs when nothing less would save Rama's brother, Lakshman.

But what pilgrims remember most is not the strength — it's the devotion. Asked once to prove his love for Rama, Hanuman is said to have torn open his own chest to reveal Rama and Sita seated within his heart. It's why, even today, no visit to Ram Janmabhoomi is considered complete without first stopping at Hanuman Garhi — devotees believe Hanuman still stands guard at the city's gate, watching over the temple of the one he loved before all else.
